Staghorn Fern

Staghorn Fern

Staghorn Fern

The beautiful Staghorn Fern is unlike any other plant. Their thick leaves are actually fronds, shaped like the antlers of a deer or moose. For optimal health, Staghorn Ferns should be kept away from direct sunlight. Native to Java and southeastern Australia, the Birds Nest ‘Staghorn’ fern has a fuzzy texture to the leaves that can get very large if taken care of. The name bifurcatum means forked, referring to the leaves that split and resemble stag or elk horns. It can grow up to 31-35 in tall and wide, and care is easy as long as they’re provided with low to medium light and moderate moisture like most ferns.

  • Size: Plant container measures 4″ or 6″ in diameter
  • Light: Bright, indirect light or diffuse light
  • Water: Once per week in dry months, once every 2-3 weeks in cool months. They absorb water through their fronds as well as their roots, and enjoy a good misting.
  • Botanical Name: Platycerium Bifurcatum
  • Common Name(s): Staghorn fern, Elkhorn fern
